Babashaheb and Gandhi started there fight against untouchability together but Gandhi was not certain abt the difference between racial and caste discrimination.
The connection between class and caste is major.
Graded inequality prevails in India.
1956 Babashaheb died
Entry into well and temples was a initial move to equality
Gandhi was not a man of well education
Whereas Babashaheb was a scholar with great ideas of French revolution.
Gandhi was political more into religious sentiments. He always wanted a sentimental reason. His approach was always moral and spiritual.
1950 - Babashaheb founded Republican party of India
Gandhi insisted on Ambedkar to be in constituent assembly
Maharashtra has a long history of political, social and religious movements.
Dalit panthers - they turned there back on the parliamentary measures and took recourse to the mass based political movement to empower Dalits. Dalit panthers expressed content for the politics of compromise as typified by the electoral deals of the then Republic party of India.
Dalit panthers took inspiration from the black panthers of America which was a political party to combat the racial discrimination. The founders of Dalit panthers were mainly poets and writers.Their engagement with street politics were not much. They used confrontational measures like morchas, bands, strikes, gherawas etc in order to articulate their resentment again dalit oppression and to empower the Dalits.
They made a novel contribution to literary and cultural realm.
This organisation was very much inspired by Ambedkrite thought which was economic upliftment and the political representation of Dalits
They were in no sense clones of Ambedkar
Black panthers found all the religions problematic.
They tried to articulate the voice of the Lumpur proletariat
They didn't limit themselves to Dalits only in all spheres
Proletariat...is not only about working class, a small criminal can also be a proletariat.
Dhassel was a taxi driver( Dhor Chawl, Golpitha, Kamatipura)
Kamatipura is a Marathi term for the small construction workers.
