The Parable of the lost Daughter

 The parable of lost Daughter

Critics

✓The third world feminist are very apologetic approach towards white feminist there will be difference, heterogeneity one should not be confined to the idea of white feminist. There can be difference experiences and approaches of different people towards their lives.

✓Education is seen as the factor which alienates her from her family. It has not urged the girl to question the hierarchy. She has adopted and absorbed the hierarchy.

✓The concept of Dalit Chetna or dalit consciousness is very important for dalit studies. Dalit as group of people who wants to fight back. The aware people who fights for their rights , not as one who always have lives of piety or pain but of revolution. Work of Valmiki-Dalit Sahitya ka sondriyr shastra: " just describing or explaining the pain , sorrow, anguish , exploitation is not dalit consciousness nor the emotional or eye watering narration of Dalit pain which is devoid of fundamental consciousness; consciousness has a direct relation with perspective... Dalit means someone who is deprived of human rights , someone who has been socially unaccepted, his consciousness is what constitutes Dalit consciousness "

✓Renu Josan - " dalit consciousness is a crucial cultural tool which is elemental in opposing the cultural inheritance of the upper caste" article named oppression to assertion; dalit consciousness in Om Prakash Valmiki's Jhoothan.

✓Mukti Boodh article named - What is Dalit Literature " Dalit consciousness is the defining nature of dalit literature it is a rebellion against the suppression and humiliation suffered by the Dalits in the past and even at present and the framework of Varna system.

✓Laura bercek - their is underlying process of marginalisation within the margin because their is a tendency by writers and readers to consider the male centred rural stories have been considered as most expressive of dalit consciousness not women voices. Dalit chetna of middle class urban Dalits is considered less authentic.

✓ Someone who supports this view is Anita Bharti in her article she says that the idea of dalit consciousness has left very less space for dalit woman perspectives. The urban middle class Dalits find it difficult to put their experiences of alienation or crisis of modern life into the narration of oppression and atrocities in the rural sphere.

✓Vinodini says that- "awareness about identity consciousness alone will not bind all women together as every woman has multiple identities and she gets discriminated on the basis of very many accounts"

✓"Feminist concerns take on a very different colour in the dalit context as they are not concerned with the issues of gender, desires, and sexual freedom alone but are very particular about the issues of hate and pollution that perpetuates as a sort self content of dalit women

Story summary

The very idea of hierarchy is presented here. The world where certain caste are seen as impure. The idea of parental care is also there. The idea of acceptance is there when she says that she will be acceptable to the Brahmins. This acceptance to the Brahmins is her identity, it is considered her special privilege which she consider as a great thing to her. Idea of alienation from the family

Self assessment of father

"Their family is not like that "- one who doesn't discriminate who sees everyone equal .

Actually she is demeaning herself by considering it a privilege to visit kitchen of a Brahmin family. She thinks that she had climbed the ladder of being respectful.

She saw them as aspirational model. She thinks her family restricted her to be what she is and now she wanna get out of it.

She didn't want him to accompany her to railway station coz he was untidy and also a rickshaw puller. His body bearing all the markers which makes him worthy of contempt not as markers of toil.

She is always angry when she is in house. There is no sense of realisation that she is shuning her loved ones. In her house she is angry but at Gayatri's house she is always pleased to take part in everything.

Her mother is a housemaid. The appearance is very important for her. That they have to look certain way to be accepted. There is no questioning of norms. The social mobility is questioned in the story. The mobility at the cost of isolation from the loved ones and not questioning the caste hierarchy.

By infantalisation can only express the mother daughter bond otherwise there is no actual sense of respect for mother.

She feels anxious about her acceptance in Gayatri's family.

She started using hygiene practice more than anyone else coz of her illusion that she is stepping up as upper caste association with Brahmin family.

Sense of concealment in the relationship between S.Vani and Gayatri's family.
